- Carbon dioxide has a higher density than air
- It can form a layer around a burning material and starve it of oxygen
- As carbon dioxide doesn’t burn, the fire is put out
- It is mainly used on electrical fires.
Fizzy drinks -
- The carbon dioxide is bubbled into a liquid at a cold temperature and a high pressure (to increase its solubility)
- It is sparingly soluble
- It bubbles out and produces fizz.
